Regina Railway Modellers Association
CN Family Day Melville, SK
August 31, 2019

The RRMA was invited to participate in the CN Family Day event in Melville. Saskatchewan held on August 31st. This year’s event focussed on the 100th anniversary of Canadian National.
The full RRMA layout travelled to Melville for the day and we tried to “CN-ize” the layout to commemorate the anniversary.

Melville is a major division point on the CN’s Prairie region, located at the junction of four subdivisions – Watrous, Rivers, Yorkton and Qu’Appelle. It is located approximately 190 (rail) miles southeast of Saskatoon, 280 miles northwest of Winnipeg and 92 miles northeast of Regina. A major yard and service facilities can be found in Melville. VIA Rail’s Canadian also serves the city.

Member Mike Shirran, a CN trainman and engineer, was our local contact. Bruce Plouffe and Bob Summers provided some great CN equipment, and Tom Mulligan, Corie Knutt and David Onodera were on hand in Melville, along with Mike.

Thanks to the local CN team for inviting us and for their gracious assistance with logistics.
The full 16 by 40 foot RRMA layout was a major focal point of the day's events. That's Mike Shirran and his mother in the background.
